EWI Tool, and open source patch editor for the Akai EWI4000s was shutdown almost 2 years ago. And Akai has since discontinued making the EWI 4000s (stupid decision in my opinion). How do you take the venerable Akai EWI, and make it total garbage? You strip away the wireless, make it longer, and give it a shitty speaker. For your pleasure, the “geniuses” at Akai have brought forth…..the EWI Solo.

A good review/intro to EWIs. I still think the Akai are THE EWI to get. There are PLENTY of other makers out there, but Akai has a proven history of making the instrument. Also keep in mind akai no longer makes the 4000s

Bret Pimentel has a great article about using an EWI as “silent” practice tool for saxophone, clarinet, or other woodwinds. I agree with his view point.
